Our Mission & Vision
Our mission is to truly know each resident and help them live their best possible chapter with purpose, dignity, creativity, and joy in a secure, uplifting, fun, and home-like atmosphere.
At Inspirations, we honor the uniqueness of every resident, including understanding their history, achievements, needs, and the moments that bring them Purpose, Joy, and Laughter.
Our care is grounded in a whole-person approach that embraces personal interests, life experiences, and strong family partnerships. We integrate the latest research and best practices in Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and memory loss to support each resident with both expertise and compassion.
We also believe exceptional care begins with an exceptional team. When our staff feel valued, supported, and inspired, they create a warm, joyful, and deeply human experience for every resident.
Every year we donate $5,000 to the Alzheimer's Association and participate in their memory walks. We enjoy doing our part in helping to accelerate research, being a part of our community, and one day ending Alzheimer's and all other types of dementia.

Kacey Troyer
Ben Slabaugh
Inspirations was founded by Kacey Troyer and Ben Slabaugh, who together bring more than 55 years of experience in Senior Living. With deep industry knowledge and a shared passion for serving seniors, they envisioned a disruptive approach to Memory Care that challenges outdated perceptions and prioritizes Purpose, Joy, and Laughter.
After earning his master’s degree in health administration, Kacey joined KPMG as a National Director in their Senior Living Services practice. He later founded Troyer Advisors, a comprehensive senior living consulting firm. Kacey met Ben at a friendly gathering, and the two quickly discovered a shared vision for improving senior living communities across the country.
Together, they consulted for hundreds of providers throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Along the way, they identified meaningful opportunities for improvement and saw firsthand that only a small percentage of communities were implementing best practices that truly elevated resident life. That realization sparked a bold idea: build the kind of memory care community they wished already existed.
In 2015, they purchased their first community, a vacant 16-unit assisted living residence on a farm in Westminster, Maryland. To Kacey and Ben, it was the perfect place to bring their vision to life. The property even included goats and chickens. They added a four-seat UTV for rides through the gardens and pastures, creating moments of adventure and connection.
With a dedicated team and incredible residents, the community came alive with laughter, dancing, exceptional food, music, and the joy of animals. As musicians themselves, Ben and Kacey understand the power of music to awaken memory, inspire movement, and spark connection. They still play for residents weekly, and it remains one of the most meaningful parts of their work.
After three years, they expanded their vision to Linthicum and Lutherville, adding 64 additional suites while maintaining their small-model philosophy. This approach allows for superior staff-to-resident ratios, deeper relationships, and highly individualized care.
In 2023, Inspirations expanded again, with a 70-bed Assisted Living and Memory Care community in Middle River, Maryland.
Today, with more than a decade of ownership experience in Assisted Living and Memory Care, Kacey, Ben, and their leadership team continue to chart a new, industry-disrupting path forward. One that replaces loneliness with Purpose, fear with Joy, and despair with Laughter.
Their goal is to to redefine how families experience Memory Care and to drastically improve the perception of care for seniors in this important chapter of life, especially those living with dementia and memory challenges.
